| 8/24/2009 | Subject: Use of PACER/RECAP Software |
| The purpose of this e-mail is to provide you with information about a software application or “plug-in” called RECAP which is used with Mozilla Firefox Browser, and was designed by a group from Princeton University to enable the sharing of court documents on the Internet. There has been widespread coverage about this software in the media and it appears that once a user loads RECAP, any document that he/she subsequently accesses via PACER is automatically sent to a public Internet repository site for free access. While the Administrative Office of the US Courts continues to analyze this software and the associated issues, we are asking PACER users to refrain from using RECAP or related-software because restricted documents could inadvertently be made available on the public Internet. | |

(example - websites with sexual, hate and violent content are blocked) We also receive e-mails when someone tries to access inappropriate sites and the software will let the user know that the website is blocked. This connection is not accessible during the weekend. | |
