PACER is a dial-in service that permits the use of any terminal or computer to access information concerning the status, participants, deadlines, scheduled hearings, significant dates, and transactions docketed via the BANCAP system. Using PACER, you can search for a participant name or case number, obtain lists of cases, track case updates, research case involvement by party name, review recent docket entries, and retrieve electronic case summary records from your home or office.

Depending on when the case was filed, some of the information described above may not be available through PACER. You may presently use PACER to access case summary information and the transactions docketed during the past six months in all bankruptcy cases and adversary proceedings filed on or after December 1, 1988. For a number of reasons, case summary information concerning cases filed prior to that date may not be available through PACER and you may not currently access docket entries for these cases using PACER. Please call PACER first. If you are unable to obtain the information you desire, please call the office for assistance.

WHAT YOU NEED

1. A dumb terminal, computer, or personal computer;
2. A 19,200 baud or less modem;
3. Communications software (such as PROCOMM) that will emulate aVT100 terminal
4. A system login code and password.

If you wish to obtain a "hard copy" of the information retrieved, you will additionally need a printer that can handle output at least 80 columns wide.

It should be noted that although a dumb terminal will suffice, the use of a computer will permit you to save downloaded information on a disk, edit the saved file if necessary, and print it for review and future reference.

UPDATES

PACER runs on a personal computer separate from the BANCAP computer. At the close of each business day, the PACER data base is updated to reflect all BANCAP data entered that day. As a result, information will typically not appear on the PACER system until the day after its entry in BANCAP. Since new cases and adversary proceedings are generally entered in BANCAP one business day after filing, they typically will appear on PACER two days after filing. Technical difficulties may, on occasion, delay the updating of PACER information. If a major information update problem exists, a message to this effect will appear on the screen when you first access the system.

SYSTEM AVAILABILITY

Except during the time (generally 10:00p.m. to 12:00a.m.) required to update the data base each working day, PACER is available for use around-the-clock, 365 days per year. To promote system availability and to discourage any one user's exclusive use of the system, PACER limits the length of each dial-in session to 15 minutes. Additionally, the system limits the time a user may continuously sit idle during a dial-in session to two minutes. PACER will warn you when either limit is approaching. There is no limit to the number of times a user may re-dial and re-access PACER.

COST

PACER charges are $.60 per minute of access time used. Charges are billed QUARTERLY by the San Antonio PACER Billing Center. You also pay any long distance charges you may accrue.

FOR SYSTEM ACCESS
